The Grupo de Reflexión de Excarcelados Políticos, or GREX for short, is a social organisation founded in December 2019 by former political prisoners detained during the social protests of 2018 and subsequent months in Nicaragua. After their release, they established the organisation.
They consider themselves survivors of arbitrary detention, inhumane and degrading treatment, and physical and psychological torture. GREX pursues truth, reparation, justice and the prevention of further abuses by the Nicaraguan regime. They are devoted to restoring democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.
A crucial aspect of their mission is to shine a light on the ongoing persecution, harassment, and stigmatisation faced by those who have been released from prison and forced to flee Nicaragua or endure a life where their fundamental rights are violated.
